We are happy to announce a new edition of our Reading group on integrated History and Philosophy of Science. This time, we will be reading Mary B. Hesse's classic Forces and Fields: The Concept of Action at a Distance in the History of Physics. This book may surprise the reader, as it is not only a classic in the history of physics, but also contains profound philosophical reflections.
Starting on October 15th 2024, at 11:30 am CEST, we will discuss the preface and Chapters 1 and 2 of the book. The session will be held online and is expected to last about one and a half hours. Further meetings will be held weekly on Tuesdays at the same time (if not stated otherwise). If you are interested in joining us and want to keep updated on the meetings, please contact us at integratedhps1@gmail.com.
Next in our spring series of the iHPS Reading Group, we shall discuss José G. Perillán's Science Between Myth and History (OUP, 2021). This book may be of interest to anyone interested in the narratives about science, in scientific pluralism and, more broadly, as a way to contribute to the so-called "crisis of science" in public opinion.
Starting on May 7th 2024 at 11:00 am CEST, we will discuss the introduction and Chapter 1 of the book. The session will be held online and is expected to last about one and a half hours. Further meetings will be held weekly on Tuesdays at the same time (if not stated otherwise). If you are interested in joining us and want to keep updated on the meetings, please contact us at integratedhps1@gmail.com.

We are organising a new series of our Reading Group during Spring 2024. In these new sessions, we will discuss some papers and chapters focusing mainly on historiography not exclusively on the history of science. What is a cannon in history? how does the notion of "classic" appear? What kind of historiography do scientists develop when writing the history of their own field? These are some of the questions that will be addressed at the Reading Group.
Starting on April 23rd 2024 at 11:00 am CEST, we will discuss Jaume Aurell's paper The canon in history. The session will be held online. For further information please contact us at integratedhps1@gmail.com.
On the second session to be held April 30th at 11:00 am CEST we will discuss chapter 5 and the conclusions of Jaume Aurell's What Is a Classic in History?
